The Flowers in our Words

This is what happens when I lay awake at night, trying to fall asleep.

My mind starts to draw weird comparisons.

For instance, I am now working at a florist's shop.

Tumblr
And words, or stories, are like flower arrangements.

First, you have the MAIN CHARACTER!! The main character is the centerpiece of the story, the one all the worlds revolve around. So, the main character is kind of like the centerpiece flower in a bouquet, your expensive flower: your rose, hydrangea, or orchid.

Next, you have the plot. The plot has to be sustained throughout the entire novel, so we need some hearty flowers for this part of the arrangement. Plot equals your chrysanthemums, carnations, calla lilies and sunflowers; all those flowers that do not die easily.

Conflict comes next, little pops of unexpectedness which add colour and shape to your story. Usually, this constitutes "filler": your hypericum berries, your leather leaf and baby's breath, your statice, wax flowers, and myrtle, your poms and yarrow, and your bupleurum. Conflict is what keeps your story exciting and fresh, and adds depth to your arrangement.

Theme is the overall portrayal, the ideas you want to convey, the colour of your novel: how you combine all your flowers to create one whole. The bouquet.

Setting, of course, equals the pot. :) Or the vase. Whatever dish receptacle thingy you might choose to put your bouquet into.

Crafts in India            Painted Blossoms        Style Up Your Life             Asis Biz

And there you are! Sometimes you might have to pull out flowers you don't like, or cut out some foliage that just isn't doing it for you, but in the end you're left with a gorgeous arrangement.

Just like a novel.

Yep. This is what happens at night. While I lie sleepless. I hope you enjoyed that. Cheers!

God bless!
